Case Study: Public Transport Experience Research with Transport for West Midlands

We are proud to be partnering with the Transport for West Midlands for the first-ever lived-experience and expert-led research exploring the experiences of neurodivergent individuals and those with hidden disabilities using public transport in the region.

Process:

  • Data Collection: Surveys and focus groups with users of buses, trams, and trains with a particular focus on neurodivergent individuals and those with hidden disabilities.
  • Analysis: Identify recurring challenges, such as sensory sensitivities, unclear communication, or difficulty navigating routes and compare them to the experiences of neurotypical individuals.
  • Outcome: Tailored recommendations for improving signage, communication methods, and staff training to create a more neuro-inclusive public transport system.

This research will not only help Transport for West Midlands enhance accessibility but also set a precedent for accessibility in public services across the UK. We are currently conducting this research and look forward to sharing our findings with you soon!
